Nick Geels worked as a teenager in the warehouse of garden furniture company Kees Smit in Almelo. 'I often had to drag pallets. That was very heavy and I can still clearly remember the splinters in the wood. I thought: this has to be different.'

Nick set out to research, completed some tests and named his own organization Revopal. The Revopallet is a pallet made of recycled paper. The Revopallet weighs about 3.7kg, making it significantly lighter than the (traditional) wooden pallet. The latter weighs more than 20kg.

Kees Smit Garden Furniture is one of the organizations that has taken the Revopallets into use. From the distribution center in Almelo, the garden sets are prepared for shipment on cardboard pallets. 'The goal is to eventually switch completely to these pallets,' responds logistics manager Conrad Aalpol of Kees Smit.

More than a thousand Revopallets are currently in use at Kees Smit, and the inventor Nick Geels is therefore extremely proud: 'The pallet is recyclable after use. A real revolution in the logistics world.'
